under siege

Avoiding people. Hum, probably not the easiest or smartest thing to do when you actually need people to photograph them. Unfortunately, as of late, we’ve been on lock down; a bit of hiding whilst awaiting the sneak attack of germs (steve’s story here in case you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about and if I’ve lost my mind… which i have).  I’ve been a little frozen on picture taking, overcome with stupor and lassitude. I hear a tiny voice of me attempting to break free and pick up my camera once again.

This little silent nagging popped out of hiding today. And, as all proper optimists and supportive lil wives say, “there’s always a silver lining in every cloud”.  Due to current, totally messed up circumstances,  I’ve actually started to notice little things around the house that fell into the dark abyss that fermented during our “normal” lives. Little things that I passed by without even a first glance.  Today I picked up the camera and went on a little hunt. I found this on my balcony.

The Giving Save the Date

i stood on tiptoe
gazing into the distance,
interminably gazing at the
road that had taken you…
(i miss you.)

-chi’in chia’s wife

These are the words he had chosen along side his own such as “caring and beautiful. just like you.”  He simply slide the card in with the book and sent it off to me in New York. I was amazed not only by the obvious gesture of a shipped gift, but of the true introspective nature in this man that would be my husband years later. I knew that he understood me and would open my eyes to new things in our lifetime together.

Mostly, I think these FREE “save the date” templates are adorable. But, maybe I’m deeply inclined because they have hidden meaning for me. Wanted to share a lil freebie I stumbled upon today. If we were getting married again, I surely would find a way to incorporate these little treasures.

as viagens de mãe

Looking at her you would never guess the journey that has been traveled to get to the now. Traveling by ship from Brasil to the US as a child, traveling from New York to California and then continuing to travel everyday as a flight attendant this very day. This woman loves to travel. One thing I’m most amazed by and proud of in my mother’s travel is her journey of life. As everyone has their trials, tribulations, joy & simple moments, my mom, too, has had her share of obstacles to overcome and joyous moments to celebrate.

At times she drives me crazy and I drive her to complete and utter frustration. We are part Latin you know, feisty. But at the end of the day she is my mother. I’m so proud of her. I have come to appreciate her even more during life’s latest changes. It’s funny how most “kids” always try to be so independent. But the other day I let go for a moment and I realized how that’s ok. That’s what mom’s live for.  I let my mom do our laundry the other day and I have to admit it felt good. And, I’m sure it made her feel awesome. (I know it did, come on she got to do MY laundry)

She’s awesome. Love her.
